How It All Began
My name is Tom, and my connection with Australian Shepherds goes all the way back to grade school. Our neighbor owned a Blue Merle female who helped him work his deer farm and livestock. She was calm, sharp, and always seemed to know what was needed before anyone said a word. I spent most of my free time there with his son, Lance, and seeing how that dog worked made a strong impression on me. That’s where everything began.
When I was fifteen, I brought home my very first Australian Shepherd a Red Merle named Sandy. I still remember how she’d curl up beside me whenever I sat down or run along the fence line while we handled chores on the farm. She had a way of making every day feel lighter. She wasn’t just a pet; she was part of our family.
When Sandy had her first litter, it felt like a new chapter for all of us. My brother Mike kept one of her pups, and that carried on the bond we’d built with the breed. Looking back, that was the moment I realized this wasn’t just a phase or a hobby. It was something that naturally grew into a way of life for our family.
Our Mission Statement
At Tomshepherds, we’re a family who has spent years raising Australian Shepherds with care, patience, and a true love for the breed. What began as a personal passion has grown into a small family operation where every puppy is raised the way we’d want our own dogs to be raised close to us, well-socialized, and treated like part of the household.
Our focus is simple: healthy puppies, sound temperaments, and families who feel confident and supported from the first conversation until long after their pup is home. We believe in being open, honest, and involved throughout the process so new owners feel at ease and truly understand the puppy they’re bringing into their lives.
From time to time, we also work with a few trusted, responsible breeders who share the same values we do. This helps us make sure that families looking for an Australian Shepherd can find the right match without ever lowering the standards we live by.
At the end of the day, this isn’t just a business for us, it’s something we care about deeply. Every puppy that leaves our home is a piece of our family, and we treat each adoption with the respect and attention it deserves.
